Registering a new user
To register yourself with Sarovar, visit the main
sarovar.org page and click the
New Account option, found to your browser's top right.
The following information will be required to complete the registration:
- Login Name
- Choose the username to access the Sarovar system. It should not
contain any uppercase letters, and should generally be a combination of
your name and surname; e.g. "juser" for John User.
- Password
- Pick the password for your Sarovar account. It must be at least
6 characters long and, of course, not too obvious. It should be easy
to remember for you but hard to guess for others. Don't use your
cat's or dog's names, or the name of your birth city.
You should use a clever combination of letters and numbers instead.
- Full/Real Name
- Provide your full name.
- Language Choice
- Select your preferred language. The choice will not only influence
the language but also other specifics, such as the date display. Right now
we do not have any indian languages available, but we are working on it.
Take a look at the
Sarovar Translation Project page
if you'd like to help us extend the language choice.
- Timezone
- Select your timezone to have all the dates displayed relative to it.
GMT is the pre-selected default.
- E-mail Address
- Provide your e-mail address. The address should be correct, or you
will not receive the Sarovar confirmation e-mail needed to complete
the registration and activate the account. After you successfully
receive the e-mail, you'll have to visit the account activation URL
that we'll send you. It's the only way you can become a registered user.
- Receive Email about Site Updates
- If you select this option, you'll periodically receive
sarovar.org service information.
The list traffic is very low and it is recommended that you activate
this option.
- Receive additional community mailings
- To be done

Registering a new project
To register a new project, log into your account, then visit the main
sarovar.org page and click the
New Project option, found to your browser's right.
The following information will be required to complete the
project registration:
- Project Full Name
- The project name; e.g. "Sarovar Documentation Project". The name has
a length limit of 40 characters.
- Project Purpose and Summarization
- Provide us with a brief and precise summary for the project. It is
important that you get it right, since we'll use it as the basis for our
project approval decision. Besides the project description, we'd
like to hear which Sarovar services, and in what ways, would you like to
use primarily. A link to your existing project files (if you have any)
is another winning point.
- License
- Select a license for your software.
- Project Public Description
- Specify the public project description which will appear on the
Project Summary page
- Project Unix Name
- Specify your project's Unix name which should abide
the following restrictions:
- The name should be unique and match no other Sarovar project
name
- It should be between 3 and 15 characters in length
- It should be all lowercase
- It should only consist of standard characters, numbers and
dashes
The Unix name will be used for your Sarovar website, the CVS
repository, and the shell access to Sarovar. Please note that
you won't be able to change your Unix project name later.
Once a project is established and gets the name, it will not be
possible to change it.
Clicking the I AGREE button will submit your project
registration request to the Sarovar staff. Note that you won't be
able to access the project immediately; it will first have to be
appproved by the sarovar.org
administrators. In case everything goes well (and it should),
you'll receive the project activation notice within 72 hours.
